Lee Clark has been speaking on a recent edition of #NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith and Steve Howey about all things Newcastle United.

1 of 7

Easy one to get us underway, in what month during 2019 was Steve Bruce appointed Newcastle manager?

One of the main points that Clark focused on was Steve Bruce’s future after the Toon were beaten 1-0 by Brentford in the Carabao Cup.

This has led to increased pressure on the Toon’s boss and led Clark to discuss potential replacements, and one man who he thinks won’t be coming to St James’ Park is Eddie Howe.

He said: (34:22) “There has been names bandied about.

“There’s been Eddie Howe bandied about if Steve Bruce was to go.

“Eddie Howe, is one of the best up and coming managers in the business, I don’t think he would want to touch Newcastle United at this moment in time because I think any manager who comes in is going to find it difficult.”

Do you think Howe would take the Newcastle job?

No, not at the moment

No, not at the moment

Yes, he would take it

Yes, he would take it

TIF Thoughts on Clark’s view on Howe…

Howe left Bournemouth in the summer of this year after the Cherries were relegated from the Premier League, but Howe dragged them from League Two to the Premier League over the course of two spells and kept them there for five seasons.

So, he has proven the job he can do, and considering Newcastle’s squad contain former Bournemouth players in Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson; maybe he would consider a move to Tyneside.

However, with Mike Ashley still the owner, we can see why Clark thinks that Howe would not want to take the Newcastle job if it became available because of the reputation Ashley has built up as the Toon’s owner.

Howe could be a great choice for Newcastle if they decide to get rid of Bruce because of what he has done; however, we agree with Clark that he probably wouldn’t fancy it under this current regime.
