A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a tweet that was recently posted by the club’s official Twitter account which shared the news that Andre Marriner is set to referee the Toon’s Premier League clash with Manchester City this evening

This tweet included a link to an article on Newcastle United’s official website which shared that Scott Ledger and Richard West will assist Marriner, who is yet to officiate a Newcastle United fixture this season, while Andy Madley will serve as the fourth official and Lee Mason will work as the Video Assistant Referee, with Matthew Wilkes assisting him.

So, how did these Newcastle United fans react to this referee news?

This announcement drew a concerned reaction from some Toon fans despite the fact that this will be Marriner’s first time refereeing a Newcastle United game this season, with one particular Newcastle fan sharing that they think Marriner will award a penalty to their opponents, others calling for the game to be called off in response to this news and some other fans of the North East club indicating that they don’t care who the referee is as they believe their side will be beaten regardless.

It’s safe to say that the Magpies haven’t had the best of luck when Marriner is in the middle as they’ve failed to win in the last 7 Premier League games that he has taken charge in.

All in all, this news didn’t draw a very positive reaction from many Newcastle fans and it seems as though plenty of Toon supporters are feeling pessimistic about their side’s chances of getting a result from their Boxing Day clash with Pep Guardiola’s side.
