Newcastle United were left frustrated as they were forced to settle for a point against Fulham on Saturday evening, as both teams played out a 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park.
The Magpies fell behind on the night though, as Tosin Adarabioyo’s header rebounded off the face of Newcastle midfielder Matt Ritchie to see the visitors take the lead.
The game’s turning point came just after the hour mark though, as Joachim Andersen was shown his marching orders for a foul on Callum Wilson in the penalty area.
Wilson stepped up and scored from the spot as he netted his eighth goal of the season for his new club since signing from Championship side AFC Bournemouth in the summer transfer window.
He’ll be hoping he can continue to score goals to keep Steve Bruce’s side clear of the relegation zone, with the Magpies 12th in the top flight following the game.
However, one player that continues to be singled out by some sections of Newcastle United supporters is Joelinton, with the forward failing to hit the back of the net against Fulham, as the points were shared on the night.
The 24-year-old has scored three goals in 15 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions this season, and came in for criticism from some of the St. James’ Park faithful on Saturday evening.
Take a look at how some supporters reacted to Joelinton’s performance against Fulham on Twitter below…
Listen no one is immune from criticism, Joe has definitely improved this year but everyone was fairly poor in that game last night. It's not entirely the players fault either because it's difficult to perform when your manager is utterly clueless, inconsistent with the set etc.

some of the stick he got last night was a bit unfair, he wasn’t awful, but wasn’t great either, like most of the team. Why do people like Ritchie get less criticism than him though?

He isn't good enough and won't come good. He's only in the team because of his price tag. Not convinced he's actually any better than Thauvin, Canella, Riviere but has been given far too much time in the team

He has been battered in the past on here, which now means you can’t have an objective view without being tarred with that brush. He’s simply isn’t good enough, he’s a passenger for 90 minutes.
If he came through the academy he wouldn’t be anywhere near the starting lineup!

He starts because he was £40m and no other reason, he's had 1 1/2 seasons to show what he's got but done nothing to earn a start he's basically imortal under Bruce, players like Gayle must be so frustrated #nufc

He is a bang average footballer, like a most at our club. Don’t see the problem in calling players out.

He’s actually one of the few players that tries to bring the team forward and is good at it. Not a lot any of our attacking players can do when we sit 11 men behind the ball

He's pretty dreadful

Despite some fans defending Joelinton, it still appears to be the case that supporters are not fully behind their striker.
