Newcastle United now find themselves winless in their last four matches in all competitions, after they were well beaten by Manchester City on Boxing Day.

The Magpies fell behind after just 14 minutes, as Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola’s side, before Ferran Torres made it 2-0 just ten minutes into the second half.

Newcastle only managed to have 25% of the possession on the day, despite having to chase a goal for the majority of the match at The Etihad Stadium.

There has been a large number of the St. James’ Park faithful that have voiced their frustrations over their recent poor run of form, which now sees them sit firmly in mid-table.

Speaking on Match of the Day (quotes sourced from Miles Starforth), former Newcastle United forward Alan Shearer spoke out on the club’s fan’s, and their level of expectation.

He said: “The fans just want a little bit of ambition. They don’t want a club that just exists. They look at Villa, who have ambition. Everton have ambition. Southampton have ambition. They don’t have that with Newcastle.”

Plenty of Newcastle United supporters took to social media to react to Shearer’s recent comments on the club’s level of ambition.

Take a look at the best of the reaction from Twitter below.

“That’s is exactly correct. He could add Fulham, west ham, west brom to that list. Bruce lied on screen last night – he was playing to lose but by as few goals as possible. That was evident, especially bringing Carrol on who anyone confidently knows won’t score or assist.”

“Totally missing the point that Bruce is part of the ambition less problem tho, not good enough in any department and needs to go ASAP before it’s too late.”

“As usual Shearer tells it how it is in a few words and is spot on. Also its not just about where we are in the league. The teams below us are playing better football.”

“Tell him to walk Al! He can’t hack it and he doesn’t have the answers.”

Judging by these tweets, it is clear that Newcastle fans are unhappy with how the club is being run – and although not all were totally pleased by Shearer’s comments, it seems that Steve Bruce is seen as the main problem by many.
