Supporters of Newcastle United have been flocking to a report which recently emerged regarding Toon left-back Jamal Lewis.

During the summer transfer window, the north-east club secured the arrival of the 22-year-old defender on a permanent transfer from Norwich City for £14.85m (per Transfermarkt).

In a recent piece by Chronicle Live, the Liverpool Echo’s sport audience editor Joe Rimmer discussed Liverpool’s stance on Lewis prior to him signing for the Toon.

He said: “Liverpool were indeed huge admirers of Jamal Lewis.

“At one stage he appeared to be their first-choice left-back option as they looked for backup to Andy Robertson but they would eventually switch their attention to Kostas Tsimikas.”

These comments were shared on Twitter by The Chronicle and they had lots of Newcastle fans discussing the left-back.

Lewis was one of five players which arrived at St. James’ Park on permanent deals during the summer transfer window, only two of which the Toon paid fees for (per Transfermarkt).

During the 2019/20 Premier League season, Lewis made 28 appearances for Norwich in which he scored once and did not provide a single assist for a teammate (per WhoScored).

His performances for the Canaries earned the defender a weak 6.46/10 average rating, which is only marginally better than his average rating for the Toon this term.

As can be seen in these responses from Newcastle fans, lots of them held Steve Bruce accountable for why the Northern Irish left-back has not his the ground running at St. James’ Park.
