Football journalist Ian McGarry has been sharing some details on Manchester United’s transfer link to Juventus striker Paulo Dybala.

This comes after McGarry recently co-hosted the latest episode of The Transfer Window Podcast where he spoke about the latest transfer-related news across European football at this moment in time.

How well do you remember the action from the opening weekend of the Premier League? - 1. Who scored the first goal of the season?

After it was reported that Juventus are looking to tie down the Argentine to a new contract at the club with United previously showing an interest in the attacker, McGarry had this to say on the situation. (35.49)

He said: “Now, we know that there have been conversations, negotiations with both Manchester United and [Tottenham Hotspur] over the last year to 18 months regarding a potential transfer of Dybala to the Premier League and those discussions will certainly be continued should he turned down this final offer from Juventus to extend his contract.

“It’s also our understanding that United see Dybala as a long-term solution to what has been a short-term solution in Edinson Cavani, in terms of his age, and Dybala, of course, at [27-years-old] has the best years of his career ahead of him and would suit their cultural reboot policy with regards to age and the style of football they want to play. They still see, and Solskjaer still sees [Marcus] Rashford as a wide player as well as Mason Greenwood as well. Therefore, any discussion and negotiation with Dybala and his agent would be about a summer transfer, not January.”

Juventus signed Dybala back in the 2015 summer transfer window from fellow Italian club Palermo for a fee of £36 million. Since then, the striker, who is currently valued at £63 million, has made 241 appearances for the Old Lady in which he has managed to score 97 goals and provide 38 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Ian McGarry’s comments on Dybala…

As McGarry mentioned in the podcast, with Edinson Cavani’s contract at United set to run out at the end of June and with an extra year at Old Trafford only an option at this moment in time for the 33-year-old, maybe a summer move for Dybala if he doesn’t renew his deal at Juventus could be the way forward for United.

However, with Dybala only managing to score one goal in Serie A so far this season, if he doesn’t have a better goals record by the end of the campaign, this could force United into reassessing their thoughts on the Argentine.
