Speaking recently on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Sergio Aguero has not decided whether he will remain at Manchester City beyond next summer.
Since moving to City from Atletico Madrid in what was a £36 million deal back in 2011, Aguero has not only gone on to establish himself as a Manchester City legend, scoring 256 goals and providing 73 assists over his 377 appearances for the club, but also as a legend of the Premier League, as his 180 top-flight goals rank him as the fourth-highest goalscorer in the history of the competition.
However, with the £31.5 million-rated 32-year-old’s current contract set to expire next summer, and game time becoming less and less regular under Pep Guardiola at City, albeit largely down to injury, the Argentina international’s future in Manchester has been called into question of late.
And, speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, Romano claimed that the striker’s future is very much up to him, as City would love to keep the 32-year-old at the club past his current deal.
He said: “He has not decided yet. It’s up to him. Manchester City are saying, ‘Let us know what you want to do and then we [will] decide together,’ but the first decision is for the player. So, it’s up to Sergio Aguero to decide if he wants to stay, if he feels like, ‘I want to be part of this project.’
“He has to tell the club if he wants really to be part again of this project, or if he wants to try something different in La Liga or in another country. So, it’s up to Aguero. They are waiting, but I think in some weeks, in January, we will understand more about the situation, because obviously, Manchester City have to plan for their strikers for next season.”

With Aguero’s injury problems so far this season, as well as the fact the 32-year-old is coming towards the end of his career, and that he is reported to be earning £230,135 per week at Manchester City, in our opinion, regardless of the fact that the Argentine is a club legend, City should not be offering Aguero a new deal.
However, if Romano is to be believed, the decision remains with Aguero himself as to whether or not he would like to stay at City beyond next summer, with the journalist suggesting that the forward will make a decision on his future in the coming weeks.
