Pundit Stephen Doyle has recently been discussing Liverpool’s links with a move for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

Doyle appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the OTB Football podcast and the panel discussed multiple potential transfers in Europe. One topic of discussion was Grealish’s future and where he could end up. They also talked about the Englishman’s recent links with a move to Liverpool. Doyle though, believes that Grealish isn’t the sort of player that Jurgen Klopp would like.

The Daily Mirror have recently reported that because of speculation surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool, the Reds could turn their attention towards signing Grealish. The report claims that the Anfield-based side are set to register their interest in Grealish with Aston Villa in the upcoming January transfer window.

Is Grealish the sort of player that Jurgen Klopp would like?

No

Doyle believes that these rumours are just a way of cranking up Grealish’s asking price from Liverpool’s rivals.

He said (7:18): “I don’t think he’s a Jurgen Klopp player. And if there is any kind of truth in this report that Liverpool are in there, I really think that’s almost like Pep Guardiola bidding on Alexis Sanchez. It’s almost just kind of getting in there to crank up the price on your rivals.”

TIF Thoughts on Doyle’s comments regarding Grealish’s links with Liverpool…

Grealish has impressed for Villa this season by scoring five times and picking up six assists in the Premier League this season. His tally from last season suggests that he can indeed contribute to goals on a regular basis for his side.

Having said that, Klopp uses a high-pressing system at Liverpool and Grealish applies only 13.4 pressures per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He stands at the 223rd spot in that regard ( as per FBRef).

This clearly suggests that Grealish isn’t a presser and perhaps, that is why he might not be the sort of player that Klopp would like in his team.
