Liverpool journalist Joe Rimmer has been discussing the Merseyside club’s plans to expand Anfield.

This comes after Rimmer recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he spoke about the biggest talking points surrounding the club.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

After it was recently announced by the official Liverpool website that they will ‘submit a planning application to Liverpool City Council for the proposed expansion of the Anfield Road stand’, Rimmer had this to say on the matter.

He said: “These are plans that I think Liverpool had to put on hold back in April. They’re submitting planning permission this week and it’s just another side of FSG’s commitment to leaving the club eventually when they do depart because of course, they will depart at some point, just leaving the club in such a healthy state.

“Obviously, the main stand has gone up, the new training ground has been built and now they’re going to redevelop the end of the ground, which, in my opinion, has been in dire need of development for a long time, which is the Anfield Road End, so exciting times.

“I think it’s a really, really positive announcement for Liverpool.”

As Rimmer mentioned in the podcast, the club’s submission of this planning application was supposed to happen back in spring but had to be put on hold due to the global pandemic.

The club also claims that this new stand will see the capacity of the Anfield Road stand increase by around 7,000 seats, taking the stadium’s overall capacity to more than 61,000 (per LFC).

TIF Thoughts on Joe Rimmer’s comments on the Anfield extension…

As Rimmer mentioned in the podcast, we also feel that this is a positive step forward for the club as the capacity at Anfield looks set to increase further. As one of the most atmospheric grounds in football, it will surely be of benefit to Liverpool to have even more fans in the stadium every game once circumstances allow.

Also, another exciting prospect for Liverpool is the fact that they will now be allowed to have 2,000 fans allowed back in Anfield to watch games, which in our view is another big positive for the club going forward.
