Liverpool journalist Ian Doyle has been sharing his thoughts on a recently posted video of Reds defender Virgil van Dijk recovering from his knee injury.

This comes after Doyle recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he spoke about a range of topics concerning the Merseyside club.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

After Van Dijk recently tweeted a video of himself training in the gym and doing a number of activities to help him recover from a serious knee injury he suffered earlier in the season, Doyle had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I mean, there’s no suggestion that he’s anywhere near a return and I don’t think anybody’s saying that, but it’s just good that he’s clearly making some kind of progress.

“Liverpool refused to rule him out when he had the initial injury for the rest of the season, so [I’m] not saying he’s going to be back – I have no idea whether he’s going to be back – but it looks as though he’s given himself every chance to perhaps get back a little bit earlier than anyone expected.”

Back in October, Liverpool confirmed that Van Dijk would require surgery after he damaged his knee ligaments after a collision with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during the 2-2 draw between the two teams in the same month.

TIF Thoughts on Ian Doyle’s comments on Van Dijk…

Given how Van Dijk played every Premier League game for Liverpool through the previous two campaigns, this shows that he is a very important player for Jurgen Klopp, who will undoubtedly be over the moon to see the Dutchman working on his recovery.

However, with Liverpool having conceded 11 goals during the first four games that Van Dijk played in at the start of the season and how they have only conceded six since he picked up his injury, it would appear that the Reds have improved defensively since Van Dijk has been out of action.

Do you think Liverpool have improved defensively since Van Dijk got injured?

No

Despite this, the club would still presumably prefer to have Van Dijk back and available to play.
