Speaking recently on the Football Writers Podcast, Jonathan Northcroft stated that he ‘could see’ Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah, moving to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Since arriving at Liverpool from AS Roma in what was a £37.8 million deal back in 2017, Salah has gone on to feature 173 times for the Reds, scoring 110 goals and providing 45 assists along the way.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

So far this season, the £108 million-rated 28-year-old has been in remarkable form for Jurgen Klopp’s side, scoring 13 goals and providing three assists over his 13 Premier League appearances, averaging a highly impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.71 – ranking him as the club’s best performer in the top flight.

However, in a rare interview with Spanish publication AS, the Egypt international suggested that he would be open to a move away from Merseyside, touting Real Madrid and Barcelona as potential destinations for a new challenge, claiming that it was ‘difficult’ to know how long he will stay at Liverpool.

This interview and, indeed, Salah’s future, were the topic of conversation on a recent episode of the Football Writers Podcast, in which Northcroft stated that he could very well imagine the 28-year-old making the move to La Liga.

He said: “He’s always wanted to get to the very top in his career. A hugely ambitious person, which you can see oozing out of him every time he plays. And, you know, we do know that Real Madrid and Barcelona for non-British players – but maybe even for young British players now as well – represent the pinnacle of football. So it’s not a surprise if he has thoughts in that direction.

“And then you add in Diogo Jota’s signing, he’s been brilliant this season, but that actually seemed to be a signing for the future at the time, to insure Liverpool against losing somebody from the frontline.

“So, that’s a long way of saying, yes, I could see him going to Real Madrid or Barcelona at some point.”

TIF Thoughts on Jonathan Northcroft’s comments regarding Mohamed Salah’s future…

Despite the fact that Salah has won the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Premier League at Liverpool, from his comments to AS, it would indeed appear that the forward will, one day, be open to a move away from the club where he has enjoyed so much success.

Indeed, perhaps this success has actually played a part in hastening Salah’s desire for a move away from England, as he has pretty much won every major honour a player could hope to win with Klopp’s side.

However, for now, this is not something we would recommend Liverpool fans spend time fretting over, and suggest that they rather enjoy the exploits of Salah for whatever amount of time he remains at their club.
