Leeds United picked up an important three points on Sunday afternoon, as they ran out narrow 1-0 winners against Burnley at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire-based side took the lead after just five minutes, when Patrick Bamford fired home clinically from the penalty spot, after being fouled by Nick Pope in the area.

Leeds rode their luck at times during the second half, but some impressive defending from the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Pascal Struijk in the heart of Marcelo Bielsa’s defence.

Struijk was brought into the starting XI in place of Liam Cooper, with the Leeds captain ruled out through injury. The youngster certainly didn’t look out of place though, as he won seven out of his ten duels in the match.

The 21-year-old will be hoping that he can continue to impress as they head towards the new year, where Leeds will be looking to pull further clear of the relegation zone.

Plenty of the Elland Road faithful took to social media to issue their thoughts on Struijk’s recent showing against Sean Dyche’s side.

Take a look at the best of the reaction from Twitter below.

“Repped Struijk since he first played for the u23s, glad he is finally showing people why I rated him so highly.”

“Struijk was class, Bielsa is loyal to Cooper but that was a class performance by the big man, in the toughest aerial test in the league, he got to replace Cooper.”

As can be seen in the reactions above, these Leeds fans are certainly in favour of Struijk sticking around in the first team – even at the expense of first-team captain Cooper.
