The Liverpool Echo’s head of sport David Prentice has recently discussed the playing time which Anthony Gordon is getting with Everton.

During the 2017/18 season, the 19-year-old Englishman made his debut for the Toffees in the Europa League during a 3-0 victory against Apollon Limassol (per Transfermarkt).

Since then, the youngster has gone on to make 16 first-team appearances for the Merseyside club in which he has not scored but he has provided four assists.

During the current season, Gordon has been deployed on three occasions by Carlo Ancelotti in all competitions and in those games, he bagged three assists.

In a recent episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Royal Blue: The Everton FC Podcast, Prentice discussed the youngster and his lack of game time this term.

To kick off this quiz on Seamus Coleman, what squad number does the right-back currently wear for the Toffees?

He said: “Anthony Gordon is the other one [aside from Jonjoe Kenny] that constantly seems to be being ignored by the manager despite bright cameos whenever he’s played.

“Admittedly [those have been] in Carabao Cup ties, not Premier League games – although [in the] second half against Southampton he was bright.

“So, yeah, it’s like Carlo does seem to make decisions very, very quick and he does seem to have more trust in experience rather than youthful zest and impetuosity.”

TIF Thoughts on what David Prentice said about Anthony Gordon…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he seems to feel that Gordon is being “ignored” by Ancelotti and that is because the Italian has “more trust in experience”.

Should Anthony Gordon be given a run in Everton's starting lineup?

Yes, he's good enough

No, he's not ready for it

No, he's not ready for it

However, during his outing in the 2-0 defeat against the Saints, while he only featured for around 30 minutes, Gordon did record some positive statistics.

In the appearance, he made one dribble, which only five Everton players have managed more than per league game on average, and he had a passing accuracy of 90%, better than all but six Toffees players have managed on average this term (per WhoScored).

So, perhaps if the youngster was given more of an opportunity by Ancelotti, he may prove himself to be capable at Premier League level.
