Speaking recently on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the situation of Red Bull Salzburg midfielder and Arsenal target, Dominik Szoboszlai.

Since moving to Salzburg from FC Liefering back in January 2018, Szoboszlai has gone on to feature 78 times for the club, scoring 25 goals and providing 33 assists along the way.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

So far this season, the £22.5 million-rated left-midfielder has already bagged eight goals and provided nine assists over his 17 appearances in all competitions, form which has led to rumours of a potential January departure from Salzburg for the Hungary international, with Arsenal reported to be one of the clubs interested in making a move.

The future of Szoboszlai was one topic of conversation on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, in which Romano revealed that a decision will be made by the 20-year-old as to where he would like to move in the coming weeks.

He said: “Get ready because, I think in one or two weeks, we will have the final decision [of] Dominik Szoboszlai. There are a lot of clubs working to sign him, we said about Arsenal [being] interested, but he’s not the only option – also [Houssem] Aouar, also many others, so he’s not the only option.

“We also said about AC Milan – that many times they were in contact last summer with his agents and there are also other clubs. [Red Bull] Leipzig, for sure – obviously, with Salzburg, they have a direct link, but other clubs are looking at the situation.

“So, everything can happen because there is the release clause. So, the problem is to have [an] agreement with the player and not with the club. You don’t have to talk with the club, you have to pay [the release clause] if you want the player.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments regarding Dominik Szoboszlai…

From Romano’s comments, it would appear that there is a great deal of interest in Szoboszlai, and that a whole host of clubs have already been directly in contact with the player, as the fee any potential buyer will have to pay Salzburg for the midfielder is already set as his release clause.

And, with Arsenal having scored just 10 goals over their 10 Premier League fixtures so far this season, it would appear that Mikel Arteta’s squad could very much use the addition of someone with both the goal threat and creativity of Szoboszlai.

So, in our opinion, the Gunners should be doing everything in their power to try and convince the 20-year-old that north London should be where he starts the next chapter of his career.
