Speaking recently on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Arsenal board are completely behind Mikel Arteta.
Having started the season brightly, beating Liverpool in the Community Shield and winning their first two league games against Fulham and West Ham United, things have gone downhill for Arsenal rather rapidly.
Over the course of their last 10 Premier League fixtures, Arteta’s side have won just two fixtures, drawing one and losing the other seven, results which have left them languishing in 15th place in the top-flight table, prior to their fixture against Southampton on Wednesday evening.
However, despite this run of dire form, Romano, speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, claimed that the Arsenal board are fully behind the Spanish boss, and that they see the 38-year-old as the manager of the north London side for many years to come.
He said: “They are with Arteta, totally. Not just as a manager, but also as a person. They love the attitude of Arteta, how he’s working day by day [in] training, they are convinced that he’s the perfect person to take Arsenal back to [their] level.
“Arsenal are convinced that Arteta will be the manager for the future. That’s the position from the club. They are not in contact with any other manager. We will have a lot of rumours – [Mauricio] Pochettino and more – no one is in contact today with Arsenal, just because they are convinced that Arteta is the right manager. Obviously, they need to change something, and in my personal opinion, they need some leaders.”

While it would very much appear that Romano is of the belief that Arteta’s position is safe as Arsenal manager regardless of their results, surely the question must be raised sooner or later as to what happens if the Gunners are still around the relegation zone come Christmas?
Will the Arsenal board still keep unwavering faith in the Spaniard if, as crazy as it may sound, the club are in the bottom three come the New Year? In our opinion, if that does turn out to be the case, we would not expect Arteta to remain at the club, regardless of Romano’s opinion on the matter.
