This comes after Jones recently made an appearance on the Touchline Talk YouTube show where he spoke about a number of different topics in football.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

On the subject of Arsenal and the current goings-on at the club on the pitch, Jones had this to say on Aubameyang in particular.

He said: “They’ve got a big problem with Aubameyang as well. He just doesn’t seem to be motivated. I mean, Aubameyang, he’s never been a man that was an out-and-out goalscorer.

“He’s not that number nine that they’re probably seeking right now by sticking crosses in and all the rest of it. Aubameyang is a man that you need to mould your team around and get him in the right positions and they need to get back to doing that before they do anything else.”

Arsenal signed Aubameyang back in the 2018 January transfer window from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £57.38 million.

Since then, the 31-year-old, who is currently valued at £45 million, has made 123 appearances for the Gunners, prior to their midweek clash against Southampton, in which he has managed to score 74 goals and provide 16 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

In September, the striker penned a new three-year deal with the club, saying that signing a new contract “was never in doubt”.

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang…

Given how Aubameyang has only managed to score himself two goals in the Premier League so far and earn himself a fairly uninspiring season rating of 6.6/10 for his performances, it’s not a surprise that Jones sees Aubameyang as a ‘problem’ for the club at this moment in time.

Do you think Aubameyang will regain his form this season?

With Arsenal current sat in 15th place in the league table, they will undoubtedly be hoping that Aubameyang can regain the goalscoring form that he was on last season when he scored a total of 22 goals throughout the 2019/20 campaign.
