Football journalist David Ornstein has been discussing Arsenal and some potential transfer business the north London club could do in the near future.

This comes after Ornstein recently co-hosted the latest episode of The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast where he spoke about a variety of topics surrounding a number of Premier League clubs.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

On the subject of Arsenal and their potential future transfer business, Ornstein had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I’ve spoken before how they’re longer-term plans, which are kind of geared around the summer of 2021 are on that creative player, a number 10, we know that Mesut Ozil will be at the end of his contract and so heading out of the Emirates Stadium and they have really lacked creativity, and then also a right-sided central-defender because David Luiz might be coming to an end, certain other players like Sokratis, [Shkodran] Mustafi, could leave as well.

“Looking at recent performances, you may say that Arsenal need more work than that and they may look to escalate some of that to January if the right opportunities are there.”

The previous summer transfer window saw Mikel Arteta’s side spend a total sum of £77.4 million on bringing in players such as Thomas Partey, Gabriel, Pablo Mari and Runar Runarsson.

TIF Thoughts on David Ornstein’s comments on Arsenal’s potential future transfer business…

Listening to what Ornstein had to say in the podcast, it appears that Arsenal could well see some players leave the club as well as some new ones coming on if they can get the right deals done.

With three of the current Arsenal players that Ornstein mentioned of Mesut Ozil, Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis having their deals at the club expiring in June next year, it now seems likely that this trio will indeed leave the club in summer.

Also, with Arsenal having scored just 10 goals and managing to concede 12 goals already throughout their first 10 Premier League games of the season so far, we think that a move for a defender and attacking-midfielder would both be beneficial to the club at this moment in time.
