In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

This result meant that Arsenal have won just one of their last eight league games and find themselves in 15th in the Premier League table, just five points above the relegation zone.

The pressure on Mikel Arteta is now increasing, and it looks like the Goal correspondent Watts is starting to lose faith in the Spaniard because of his insistence on picking the same players.

He said: (5:40) “Don’t just do the same thing week in week out. It doesn’t make too much sense to me; I have to admit.

“They are the big mistakes that Mikel is making that are making it incredibly difficult to continue backing him at this point.

“I mean I asked Mikel about that [on Sunday night]; I asked him on rotating players and was he tempted to shake things up because of the form that his side have been [in and] because of the form of the likes of Granit [Xhaka]. [Alexandre Lacazette] and Willian.

“He said, ‘well, we have shaken things up in other games, and sometimes it will work, and sometimes it hasn’t; I pick the team that gives us the best possibility to win the game.’

“Answers like that make it harder and harder to back Mikel because does that team give you the best possibility to win the game because you have picked it for the last two months and you haven’t won any games.”

TIF Thoughts on Watts’ view on Arteta…

It looks like Watts is losing faith in Arteta, and if you look at the Premier League form guide over the last five games, only Sheffield United, who are 20th with one point, have picked up fewer points than the Gunners.

Watts also mentions the likes of Granit Xhaka, Willian, and Alexandre Lacazette, and you can see that their recent form in the Premier League has been poor in quite a few games.

Yet, they have played the majority of Arsenal’s games in the league this season.

So you can see the problems, and we can see why Watts is losing faith in Arteta, and we don’t blame him for that.

However, as it stands, the Spaniard still has the job, so the question is, can he turn this around?

We will be intrigued to see if he can.
