The Athletic’s Derby County reporter Ryan Conway discussed the Rams’ pursuit of Serdar Dursun during the latest live stream he conducted on his YouTube channel and he shed some light on the price tag Derby expect to pay for the German forward.

Derby were linked with a move for the £1.35m-rated man back in the summer transfer window but a deal ultimately never transpired then, however, per Conway, they remain interested in signing him in January.

An easy one to kick off our quiz on the 2020 summer transfer window in the EFL, which player left Birmingham City to join Borussia Dortmund?

On that topic, the journalist revealed that the Rams are confident they will be able to sign Dursun for about half of his €1.1m (£990k) release clause.

He said: “My understanding is that they are really, really keen to make this happen in January. Both parties are really keen to make it happen, and they will get him for a lot less than the €1.1m because, again, his contract is up in six months, Derby believe they can get him for about half that price, so that’s always good.”

Would Dursun be a good signing for Derby?

TIF Thoughts on what Conway had to say about Derby’s Dursun pursuit…

It may be fair to say that Dursun has been in inspired form for his current club, SV Darmstadt 98, this season, with the 29-year-old striker scoring nine goals in his 13 Bundesliga 2 appearances so far this term. This makes him the joint-second-highest goalscorer in Germany’s second-tier at present.

Additionally, Dursun has not only scored a whopping three times as many league goals as any Rams player has scored in the Championship so far this term, but when you take his three league assists so far this season into account, Dursun has made a total of 12 Bundesliga 2 goal contributions and with Derby having scored just 14 goals in the league this term, it may be difficult to argue that Dursun doesn’t look like he’d represent a great bit of transfer business for the low-scoring Rams.

With that in mind, as well as the fact that he’s been a transfer target of the East Midlands club since at least as far back as the summer transfer window, it’s surely encouraging news for Derby supporters that their club is confident of securing the centre-forward on a half-price deal next month as this deal looks like it could be a real boost for Derby.
