Scott McDermott, Jonny McFarlane and Fraser Wilson appeared on the latest edition of the Record Rangers podcast where they discussed all of the latest Rangers news and spent some time talking about the recent actions of Gers duo George Edmundson and Jordan Jones during the show.

Rangers suspended Edmundson and Jones after the club were ‘made aware of an incident’ involving the two players that saw them breach social distancing regulations amid the current pandemic when they attended ‘a private gathering with others outside of their household.’

How well do you remember Rangers' 2020/21 season so far? We'll start you off with an easy one... Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the opening gameweek of the Premiership, but which player scored the only goal of the game?

The Rangers players were ‘cautioned by police for breaching the two household ruling’ and they have since been charged by the Scottish FA.

While discussing the two players and the breach of these regulations during this recent edition of the Record Rangers podcast, McDermott was critical of the Gers duo and shared that he thinks the two players will regret what they did, saying:

“Sometimes it’s hard to understand what goes on in footballers’ heads.

“It strikes me from the outside as is if it’s maybe just two guys who have become frustrated at a kind of lack of first-team action.

“It strikes me as just two guys who are on the periphery of the squad, don’t see many opportunities coming up to play first team [football] and they’ve just thought, ‘let’s just do it’, with no thought, no consideration for their teammates, their manager, the supporters, or Scottish football as a whole.

“It’s just sheer folly and Steven Gerrard said yesterday himself – I think they’re going to regret it for a long time.”

TIF Thoughts on what McDermott had to say about Edmundson’s and Jones’ actions…

As per the Daily Record, Jones has even lost his place in the Northern Ireland national team for their upcoming Euro 2020 play-off versus Slovakia ‘as a result’ of his actions, so with that in mind, as well as the fact that the two players have been suspended by their club and charged by the SFA, it may be fair to say that their decisions are already having a negative impact on their respective careers.

As a result, it may be understandable why McDermott was critical of the two players and why he thinks that Edmundson and Jones will regret their actions ‘for a long time’. It will be interesting to see how long it does take the players to move past this incident and get back to where they were in their careers in the future – if they can at all.
