David Edgar reacted to Rangers’ 1-0 Premiership win away to Kilmarnock this past weekend during a recent video that has been posted to the Heart and Hand Podcast YouTube channel where he spent some time talking about Ryan Kent.

Kent played the entirety of this past weekend’s clash at Rugby Park and it may be fair to say that the 23-year-old winger contributed fairly significantly to the Gers’ attack in this fixture, as he played more key passes than any other Rangers player (three) and was fouled the joint-highest number of times of any Gers player (two) in Sunday’s game. Furthermore, Kent was one of only four Rangers players to hit the target with a shot in this clash with Kilmarnock.

How well do you remember Rangers' 2020/21 season so far? We'll start you off with an easy one... Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the opening gameweek of the Premiership, but which player scored the only goal of the game?

However, during his post-match reaction video, Edgar wasn’t very enthusiastic about Kent’s performance in this fixture, as he shared that he thinks the £3.15m-rated attacker was “sluggish” on Sunday, saying:

“I do think [Alfredo] Morelos and Kent were sluggish today. I think Kent maybe could do with a wee international-break rest – that’s coming up, he has played a lot of football.”

Were you happy with Kent's performance versus Kilmarnock?

TIF Thoughts on what Edgar had to say about Kent…

Kent started the 2020/21 campaign quite positively, as he scored four goals and provided three assists in Rangers’ first eight league games of the season.

He remains the Glasgow club’s second-highest goalscorer and joint-fourth-highest assist provider in the league this term thanks to those early-season performances, but he hasn’t made a direct goal contribution in any of Rangers’ five league games since

Considering that Kent has featured in all but one of the Gers’ 18 competitive games so far this season, accumulating a total of 1,415 minutes on the pitch for Steven Gerrard’s side in all competitions, which is more minutes than all but two Rangers players have accumulated at this stage of the season, perhaps it is understandable why Edgar feels that Kent may need a rest – and maybe the drop-off in his goal contributions are a result of him being more tired now than he was at the start of the campaign.

However, we also feel that the 23-year-old didn’t play that badly versus Kilmarnock, as his positive stats in some areas suggest, so maybe Kent’s lack of goal contributions in the league of late are nothing for Gers fans to be overly concerned about just yet.
