Celtic pundit Lawrence Connolly has recently been talking about the fact that the club’s board is backing Neil Lennon to turn things around at Parkhead.

Connolly was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. Connolly talked about the latest update involving Lennon’s future, amid claims – as per Sky Sports News – that his position at the club is secure and Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell still support him.

It has been reported that the likes of Eddie Howe, Roy Keane and Martin O’Neill have been contacted with regards to the position and Lennon was told that he was ‘on a yellow card’ following Celtic’s loss in the Old Firm derby. Having said that, Lennon remains ‘committed’ to turning things around at Celtic, who are 11 points behind their arch-rivals in the league table.

Are Celtic waiting for replacements before they sack Neil Lennon?

Connolly believes that the club will keep backing Lennon until they have a replacement ready.

He said: “So, are the board backing Lenny? I suppose that they’re going to back him until they have a replacement, they’re not going to come out and say anything [else]. There are definite rumours that they’ve approached other people who would be available. Who knows what the Celtic board’s thinking is at the moment? As you said, Lenny’s not going to walk away.

“You’d have thought that if they were going to let him go, the international break would have been [a good time]. You’ve got a bit of time there to get someone in and look through the video footage of Celtic and the rest of the league and see what he’s got to work with. They’ve not taken that, so it would appear that it looks like they’re going to stick with him.”

TIF Thoughts on Connolly’s comments about Neil Lennon…

The suggestion that Lennon is ‘on a yellow card’ may imply that his job isn’t entirely secure and if things take another turn for the worse, his position could still be in a lot of doubt.

Celtic’s Green Brigade supporters group have recently unveiled a banner outside the club’s ground demanding Lennon’s departure, and this suggests that the club’s fans are not happy with the job that the manager is doing. The Hoops may have two games in hand over Rangers, but they have won just a single game out of their last four league outings.

This shows that the recent form has been poor and if it doesn’t improve, Lennon’s position might come under even more scrutiny. So even though Desmond and Lawwell are thought to be supportive of him, Lennon needs to change things around very soon.
