Celtic pundit Danny Kelly has recently made a claim about the club’s central defender Shane Duffy.

Kelly was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was the club’s defence and Kelly spoke about Duffy. He believes that while the Irishman isn’t performing well, he will come good at Parkhead this season.

Duffy had arrived at Celtic on loan from Brighton in the summer transfer window and he happens to be a boyhood Celtic fan. Since joining the Parkhead-based club, the Irishman has made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys and he scored in his first two league games for Celtic (as per Transfermarkt).

Do you think Duffy will come good at Celtic?

Kelly believes that Duffy and Callum McGregor have almost crashed into each other during games and he isn’t sure if Duffy’s struggles are mental or physical.

He said: “I think there’s been a couple of times when him and Callum McGregor looked like they’re crashing into each other and don’t get me wrong, CalMac isn’t free of criticism ever. He has his good games and his bad games, but I just don’t think Duffy is performing.

“I don’t know if it’s something mental [or] physical. Obviously, there was the game last week where he ended up going down on his shoulder and he held his arm for about 10 minutes or so. Obviously, you think, if he’s holding it for that length of time, maybe you’re probably going to be going off but he didn’t. I think he can come good.”

TIF Thoughts on Kelly’s comments regarding Shane Duffy…

Duffy has picked up disappointing ratings against Lille, Aberdeen and AC Milan in recent games and that might suggest that he hasn’t been in good form (as per WhoScored).

The 28-year-old though has been the club’s fourth-best performing player in the Premiership this season and that might be a reflection of the fact that despite the recent poor run of form, he’s had a good season overall. Celtic fans can only hope that the Irishman gets back to form soon and helps the team cut the gap that currently lies between them and the Gers.
