Celtic pundit Kevin Graham has recently made a claim about John Kennedy and the long-term plans that the club might have had for him.

Graham was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was Kennedy and Graham believes that while the long-term plan was to have him manage Celtic, he hasn’t showed enough ability so far.

Kennedy is currently the assistant manager at Parkhead and he had managed the club’s UEFA Under-19s side for six games back in 2013 to 2014. He has been the club’s assistant manager since Neil Lennon returned to Celtic Park in February 2019 (As per Transfermarkt).

Should Kennedy replace Lennon as the Celtic manager?

Graham revealed that Kennedy is well-liked and he is also very modern. He said: “I still think that the long-term plan would have been that John Kennedy would’ve taken over as manager. Now, I can only go with what you’ve heard and what I’ve heard, and seemingly, Kennedy is well-liked, seemingly he is one of the best coaches in the game, he’s extremely modern. And he was favourite to get the Hibs job and he turned down the Hibs job, because Celtic wanted him to stay before Jack Ross [was appointed].

“So he must have something, but we’re not seeing it.”

TIF Thoughts on Graham’s comments regarding John Kennedy…

While Kennedy did play for Celtic and managed the club’s UEFA Under-19s side for a brief period of time, in our view, he doesn’t have enough managerial experience in his career. He has been an assistant manager at Parkhead, but he’s never had a long stint at a club in his career as a No 1 in the dugout.

This suggests that he’s still inexperienced in that department and considering that Celtic are 11 points behind the Gers, they might need someone with a proven track record to turn things around. So bringing someone like Kennedy in to replace Lennon might be a bad idea for the Bhoys at this current point in time.
