Celtic pundit Lawrence Connolly has recently made a claim about the club’s midfielder David Turnbull.
Connolly was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was Turnbull and Connolly believes that he’s a player who should be playing more minutes for the Bhoys.
Turnbull had joined Celtic from Motherwell in the summer transfer window for a fee of £
Are Celtic wasting David Turnbull's talent?
Yes
No
Connolly said that he thought that Turnbull was going be a first-team player for Celtic when he joined the club.
He said: “He’s come back from injury, he’s proven it again at Motherwell, he’s proven at SPL level – we buy him and then as you said, we just don’t see enough of him. Is it because the team’s struggling, he [Neil Lennon] wants to put him into the team when the team’s playing better, but is it easier to introduce somebody when the pressure’s not going to be on him? Maybe.
“Definitely somebody we need to see more of, I’d have thought he was coming in as a first-teamer. Someone that, if he’s not starting every week, he’s getting minutes from the bench every week.”
TIF Thoughts on Connolly’s comments regarding Turnbull…
Turnbull, who is now valued at £1.62 million (as per Transfermarkt), played as many as 431 minutes of first-team football for Motherwell this season before the move to Celtic came about. At Parkhead though, he’s only played 132 minutes and he’s made just one start so far (as per WhoScored).
So it is pretty clear that Turnbull isn’t playing enough at Celtic, even though he was a regular at Fir Park. In the games that he played at Motherwell, the midfielder had picked up an impressive rating of 7.25 and despite not playing enough for Celtic, he already has one assist in the bag.
This clearly suggests that Turnbull is a very capable player and because of that, we think Neil Lennon should play him more often.
