Journalist David Walton has recently made a claim about Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic.
Walton was a guest on the latest video on the ’67HailHail’ YouTube channel. The panel discussed many issues involving Celtic following their recent 4-1 win over Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership. Walton gave his opinion about Rogic and stated his belief that Celtic fans can only pray that the Australian midfielder stays fit this season.
Rogic, who is currently valued at £1.8m, featured for Celtic in their victory this weekend, notching an assist in the game. Having missed plenty of games already this season, he has now picked up three assists in the Premiership this term following the two he got in Celtic’s 3-3 draw against Aberdeen last month (as per Transfermarkt).
Do you think Rogic will stay fit this season?
Yes
No
Walton believes that injuries are the only thing that have prevented Rogic from becoming a ‘superstar’ at Parkhead.
He said: “All we can do is sit and pray that he actually stays fit. We’ve been here talking about Rogic in the past about getting him into this team consistently and then he goes and picks up another knee injury or another ankle knock and he’s out for another few months.
“It is the only thing that’s really held him back here from becoming a real, proper superstar on a consistent basis. Hopefully, we can get a good run out of him now.”
TIF Thoughts on Walton’s comments regarding Rogic…
Rogic has indeed been troubled by injuries over the last few years. According to Transfermarkt, he had missed as many 61 games due to injuries prior to last season and has dealt with quite a few knee problems.
Despite the injury issues that hampered his start to the previous term, Rogic had managed to directly contribute to a total of eight goals in all competitions for the Bhoys. He faced injury issues in the 2018/19 campaign too, but he still had a hand in 11 goals for the Bhoys.
Because of how he manages to contribute to goals despite injuries, it is understandable why Walton wants Rogic to stay fit this season for the Hoops. If he does stay fit, he might be able to score and assist regularly and provide a real boost to Neil Lennon’s team.
