Celtic legend Chris Sutton has recently been talking about his close friend and former teammate Neil Lennon and how he’d be feeling about the club’s situation.

Sutton was a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was Lennon and Sutton talked about how he’d be feeling ‘let down’ this season. The Hoops icon also said that regardless of what happens this season, Lennon will be considered a club legend.

The Hoops find themselves 11 points behind the Gers in the league this season. While they do have two games in hand in the Premiership, they’ve not won a single game in the group stage of the Europa League (as per Transfermarkt). Recently, the Green Brigade put up a banner outside Celtic Park, demanding the exit of Lennon.

Sutton feels that Lennon would feel upset about the situation at the club. He said: “I think Neil Lennon will feel let down. Neil Lennon, regardless of what happens this season, will go down as a Celtic legend, as a Celtic great – and rightly so. I’ve mentioned his playing career at the club, the service which he has given to the club, his first spell in management was successful at Celtic.

“In Celtic’s hour of need when Brendan [Rodgers] left, Neil stepped into his shoes – but he still had work to do to get over the line. He’s on the brink of winning a treble from last season if they win the Scottish Cup, and you’re thinking this is all so, so harsh and unnecessary. But I think Neil will feel deeply upset and let down by this, and so he should.”

TIF Thoughts on Sutton’s comments regarding Neil Lennon…

This is Lennon’s second stint as the Celtic manager. In total, he has won five Premiership titles for the Bhoys and he has guided them to winning two Scottish Cup titles as well (as per Transfermarkt). Last season, Celtic won the League Cup under him.

Even as a player, Lennon won five Premiership titles with the Hoops and won four Scottish Cups. This clearly shows that he’s achieved a lot at Celtic, as a player and as a manager and he shares a special bond with the Hoops. And because of that, it is understandable why Sutton feels that he’d be ‘upset’ about the situation at Parkhead right now.
