Jonny McFarlane, Scott McDermott and Fraser Wilson discussed all of the latest Rangers news on the most recent edition of the Record Rangers podcast and while discussing Jordan Jones’ and George Edmundson’s recent breach of regulations relating to the current viral outbreak, McFarlane and McDermott cast some doubt over Jones’ future at Ibrox.

After joining Rangers on a free transfer in the summer of 2019, Jones endured a difficult first season at Ibrox as he made just 15 appearances in all competitions for Rangers last term, with the attacker spending some time on the sidelines due to injury

How well do you remember Rangers' 2020/21 season so far? We'll start you off with an easy one... Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the opening gameweek of the Premiership, but which player scored the only goal of the game?

It may be fair to say the Northern Irishman hasn’t been a key player for the Glasgow club this term either, as he has featured in just four of Rangers’ 18 games in all competitions this season, prior to their UEFA Europa League clash with Benfica on Thursday, which Jones will now be unavailable for due to his recent actions.

Following his recent breach of regulations, McFarlane stated that he thinks “Jones’ days are numbered” at Rangers and McDermott shared a similar view to that, going so far as to claim that Steven Gerrard’s side will look to “offload” the attacker in January, saying:

“Jones has been in bother before, he was in bother before he even got to Rangers, and even in his Rangers career, he’s had a few opportunities. Even when you think back to the Old Firm game last season when he came off the bench and got sent off – not only just got sent off, got himself injured – let Steven Gerrard down and himself down badly on that occasion as well.

“I think Rangers will look at January to try and offload Jones as quickly as they can. I don’t think there’s a great kind of resale value with Jordan Jones anyway, I think you’ll get Championship clubs coming in to pick him up for, maybe, something up to £1m. Rangers will look to get that in for him in January.”

TIF Thoughts on what McDermott had to say about Jones’ future…

Jones may have put his Gers career in a precarious position by getting himself suspended for off-the-pitch reasons that Gers boss Gerrard has said (0:10) “everyone at the football club is disappointed” in him and Edmundson for and so, it may be understandable why McDermott thinks he may be out the door in January, especially as he hasn’t been a key player since joining the club.

He is currently self-isolating, so he is set to spend some time on the sidelines and with Gerrard having claimed that his recent decision is one he will (1:10) “regret” for “some time” it will be interesting to see if he is given an opportunity to redeem himself between now and January or if the writing is on the wall for his Rangers career following his recent actions.

The fact he was willing to take such a risk by breaching these regulations at all, perhaps doesn’t send a positive message to Gerrard about how highly he values his position at the Glasgow club and with McDermott explaining that Jones has let his manager down in the past, we feel that it mightn’t be a big surprise if this proves to be the final straw for his time at Rangers.
