Scott Paterson, William Boyd and Willy Irwin discussed all of the latest Rangers news on the most recent edition of the This Is Ibrox podcast and spent some time talking about Gers forward Alfredo Morelos during the show.

It may be fair to say that Morelos has had a significant impact on the pitch for Rangers since he moved to Ibrox from HJK Helsinki back in July 2017. One example of this impact is the fact that last week, the Colombian forward surpassed Ally McCoist’s European goalscoring record for the Glasgow club, as he bagged his 22nd goal in European competition for the Gers.

While discussing Morelos during this recent edition of the This Is Ibrox podcast, Irwin was full of praise for the success that the striker has had for Rangers in Europe during his time at the club and talked about how much of an impact his performances on the pitch have also had for the club financially, saying:

“For me, what he’s done in Europe for us, the money he’s made us, you know – so, when Alfie does eventually leave the football club – the money that he’s helped bring in over these last three years in the European qualifiers, going into the group stages, the goals that he’s scored, the wins that we’ve had, Alfie’s just truly incredible at times.”

TIF Thoughts on what Irwin had to say about Morelos…

No Rangers player scored more goals than Morelos in the Europa League or the Europa League qualifiers in either the 2018/19 campaign or the 2019/20 campaign, as per Transfermarkt.

So, it may be fair to say that Morelos played a significant role in helping Rangers to earn a reported £6.8m in prize money from their performances in Europe last season.

As per The Scottish Sun, they received £892.8k in Premiership prize money last season, which is a significant amount less than they earned via their performance in Europe, so with that in mind, it’s clear that doing well in Europe has a significant influence on the Gers’ finances and it’s perhaps understandable, therefore, that Irwin was full of praise for Morelos’ impact on that front.
