Celtic pundit Paul John Dykes has recently made a claim about Ryan Christie’s future at Parkhead.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys.

One topic of discussion was Christie’s future at the club and Dykes feels that since the midfielder wants improved terms on his new contract, Christie might have started to look at other options.

Christie was linked with a move to Burnley in the summer transfer window. It was reported that Burnley were looking to sign him since his time at Inverness and they have monitored his progress since then. The report claimed that talks are ongoing to hand Christie a new contract (as per the Daily Record).

Dykes believes that if Christie indeed wants to leave, Celtic should try and get the best deal possible from his sale.

He said: “Even if there’s a wrangling in terms of a contract, which obviously there is at the moment with Ryan Christie – he’s looking for improved terms; they’ve not been forthcoming – it is now getting to the point where maybe he is looking elsewhere.”

He later said: “As I say, I think he’s in the top three or four, if you look at our bracket, if you look at our squad and the impact that these players have, I think Christie is in the top three or four performers and I think his wages should reflect that. But if his head has been turned and he wants to play elsewhere, then get the best deal for him and sell.”

TIF Thoughts on Dykes’ comments about Christie…

Christie has been in good form for Celtic this season. The 25-year-old has contributed to seven goals in 11 Premiership appearances.

As a result, he has picked up a rating of 7.65 in the league and he’s been the highest performing player for the Bhoys. He is currently valued at £5.85m.

Christie’s father has already said that while the midfielder loves Celtic, there will be clubs looking at him and he can feature at the Premier League level too (as per Glasgow Times).

This clearly suggests that Christie’s future at Parkhead might not be fully certain and the Hoops may lose him at some point in the future.
