Celtic pundit Jim Orr has recently made a claim about the club’s star striker Odsonne Edouard.

Orr was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys following their loss to Sparta Prague in the UEFA Europa League. One topic of discussion was Edouard, and Orr believes that the Frenchman looks ‘isolated’ in the absence of Leigh Griffiths.

Edouard featured in the game on Thursday but failed to score. It was Griffiths who scored the only goal for the club in the 4-1 loss. The Frenchman has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season and has found the back of the net six times so far (as per Transfermarkt).

Do you think Edouard is disinterested?

Orr believes that the striker looks like a ‘lost soul’ in the absence of Griffiths. He said: “Leigh has to be a starter and you have to play him with Eddy. And Eddy, to me, looks like a lost soul on his own. [He has] two or three guys surrounding him, he’s trying to beat too many players at times. There was one incident last night [when] he’d beat two or three, then just kept trying to beat four or five.

“He looks a bit isolated, disinterested – although it’s his body language at the best of times.”

TIF Thoughts on Orr’s comments regarding Edouard…

According to WhoScored, Edouard has been Celtic’s fifth-best player in the Premiership this season, picking up an average rating of 7.35/10. However, his last league goal for the club came back in September against Ross County, which may suggest that he’s not been on top form.

Celtic had used a 3-5-2 shape regularly in the second half of last season and during that time, Edouard and Griffiths had been in impressive goalscoring form. Because of that, it may be understandable why Orr believes that Edouard needs to play alongside Griffiths more often this season.
