In-the-know podcaster @ExWHUemployee has recently provided an update on West Ham United’s Ukrainian winger Andriy Yarmolenko.

So far this season, the 31-year-old forward has made five Premier League appearances for the Hammers in which he has neither scored nor assisted a goal (per Transfermarkt).

Last week, the winger was one of five Ukrainians named by the country’s Football Association to have contracted the virus (via Claret and Hugh).

As such, the £6.75m-rated attacker has gone into a period of self-isolation.

On Tuesday, Ukraine’s clash with Switzerland was postponed just hours before kick-off after further positive tests in the nation’s camp (per Goal).

During the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, @ExWHUemployee provided an update on all of West Ham’s injured and unavailable players and discussed Yarmolenko.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

He said: “Obviously, Yarmolenko tested positive for [the virus].

“He hasn’t trained since then, so my understanding is, obviously, he won’t be available.”

TIF Thoughts on what @ExWHUemployee said about Andriy Yarmolenko…

As can be seen in what the in-the-know podcaster had to say, it seems that the winger definitely will not be available for the Irons’ trip to Sheffield United on Sunday.

Will Andriy Yarmolenko be missed while he is unavailable?

No, he's not that good

Yes, he's a solid player

However, the absence of the Ukrainian may not be all that much of a loss for David Moyes’ side as he has been one of the club’s weakest performers this season.

Over his five league appearances, which have all come from the bench, the 31-year-old attacker has earned an unimpressive 6.06/10 average rating, making him the Irons’ second-worst performer (per WhoScored).

Per league match, on average, he has made just 0.2 key passes, performed 0.2 dribbles and made 8.4 passes.

So, it is clear to see that his influence in matches for the Hammers has been severely lacking, even if those appearances have come from the bench.
