Speaking on a recent episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, John Wenham raved about the recent performances of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Since moving to Spurs from Southampton in what was a £14.94 million deal back in August, Hojbjerg has gone on to feature 14 times for the club, chipping in with one assist along the way.

How well can you remember the last few weeks of Spurs action? 1. Which played scored a hattrick against Maccabi Haifa?

Eight of these appearances by the £22.5 million-rated midfielder have come in the Premier League, over which the Dane has averaged three tackles, 0.9 interceptions and two clearances, as well as making an average of 82.4 passes per match, culminating in an impressive WhoScored match rating of 6.98/10 – ranking him as Tottenham’s sixth-best performer in the league thus far.

And following another impressive display in the club’s 1-0 victory against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, in which the Denmark international earned a WhoScored match rating of 7.23, the midfielder was one topic of conversation on the Last Word On Spurs podcast, in which Wenham heaped praise on the 25-year-old.

He said: “I can’t speak highly enough about this guy. Everything he does in terms of his performances on the pitch and the way he leads [on] the pitch, I imagine [at] the training ground, everyone [respected] him straight away, people take what he says on board, I imagine he’s great for the young players.

“He’s come from a lesser club in Southampton, but he’s done his time at Bayern Munich. He knows what it’s about, playing at a big club, and he’s come in at Tottenham and he is the captain without the armband. He’s without a doubt, the signing of the season.

“For the money involved, it was just a phenomenal bit of business; it ticks every single box. I couldn’t be more pleased with him. I’m really, really pleased, and credit to [Daniel] Levy, [Steve] Hitchen [and Jose] Mourinho for identifying the player and getting it over the line, that was massive for the club.”
