Speaking recently on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano discussed the contract situation of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris.

Since arriving at Spurs from Olympique Lyon in what was an £11.34 million deal back in 2012, Lloris has gone on to feature 337 times for the club, conceding 369 goals and keeping 115 clean sheets along the way, prior to the club’s fixture with Ludogorets Razgrad on Thursday evening.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? 1. Who is Spurs' top scorer in all competitions so far this season?

So far this season, the £10.8 million-rated 33-year-old has featured in all nine of Tottenham’s Premier League games, conceding nine goals and keeping three clean sheets, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.64 – ranking him as the club’s 13th-best performer in the league.

The club captain’s contract is currently set to expire in the summer of 2022, which would mark a decade the World Cup winner has been at the club.

However, speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, Romano revealed that Tottenham are planning on extending the 33-year-old’s stay in north London even further, claiming that Lloris’ leadership is extremely appreciated by Jose Mourinho.

He said: “They are planning to talk with Lloris to extend his contract. Mourinho appreciates Lloris. Mourinho is so happy also with the leadership of Lloris.

“It’s not just about on the pitch he’s a good goalkeeper, but also [off] the pitch, he’s a leader in the dressing room, he’s a good guy. He’s appreciated by Mourinho and this is key when you have a manager with the ideas of Jose Mourinho, the plans of Jose Mourinho; having these kinds of players is key.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments regarding Hugo Lloris…

From Romano’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that Spurs will be looking to extend Lloris’ contract in the near future, as the ‘keeper appears to be a key player under Mourinho, primarily because of his leadership qualities.

And, considering it has been reported that, in the absence of fans, the ‘keepers voice can be constantly heard throughout the course of Tottenham’s matches, as well as the fact that Mourinho has praised the 33-year-old for his communication skills, it would seem as if Romano is correct in saying that Lloris appears to be an important part of Mourinho’s Tottenham side.
