Speaking recently on The View from The Lane podcast, Charlie Eccleshare raved about how well Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, has settled into the club.

Moving to Spurs from Southampton in what was a £14.94 million deal back in August, Hojbjerg has featured 12 times for Jose Mourinho’s side, chipping in with one assist along the way.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? 1. Who is Spurs' top scorer in all competitions so far this season?

Over the seven appearances of his 12 overall that have come in the Premier League, the £22.5 million-rated 25-year-old has averaged 2.4 tackles, one interception and 84.1 passes per game, culminating in an impressive average WhoScored match rating of 6.95 – ranking him as the club’s fifth-best performer in the league.

The Denmark international was one topic of conversation on a recent episode of The View from The Lane podcast, in which Eccleshare praised the way the ‘really impressive’ central midfielder has settled in at Spurs.

He said: “I’ve been speaking to a few people about how Hojbjerg has been settling in and all the noises from people at the club and from people in and around the club [are] just really positive. I did a big profile on him when he signed for Spurs and ‘born leader’ was a term I heard a lot.

“As well as that, people talking about his intensity, his seriousness, his leadership skills – and all of those things are playing out at Tottenham, it seems. He’s someone who some of his teammates maybe were a little bit surprised at the start, just by how seriously he does take things. He very much is there at training and at games to work as hard as he can. He does have a light-hearted side as well, but he’s a really serious customer.

“I was keeping quite a close eye and ear on him [against Brighton] and he is very, very vocal – really dishing instructions out to his teammates, to [Harry] Kane, as well, he was telling him to get back when Brighton were taking a goal kick, so not one to stand on ceremony, even if it’s with Tottenham’s talisman.

“So, I just thought that was really impressive and he’s played really well for them.”

TIF Thoughts on Charlie Eccleshare’s comments regarding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg…

From Eccleshare’s comments, it is clear that the journalist has been impressed with how well Hojbjerg has done in his short time so far at Spurs, as well as the impact he has had on his Tottenham teammates, partly through his efforts in training, and also in his leadership on the pitch, with Eccleshare even stating that the midfielder has been giving orders to Kane during matches.

And, considering the 25-year-old has currently been Mourinho’s fifth-best player in the league, while the club currently sit third in the Premier League table, it would certainly appear as if Eccleshare’s praise for the midfielder is not misplaced.
