Ben and Simeon Daniel of We Are Tottenham TV have been discussing Eric Dier’s recent comments regarding his teammate Dele Alli during a recent YouTube video.
During a recent interview, Dier was asked about the 24-year-old who has been limited to just 66 minutes of Premier League football this season (as per Transfermarkt) to which he responded:
“Dele has the capacity, we all know his quality, we all know what he brings, he’s shown that in the past.
“It’s really up to him to put in the work, the effort, the commitment and I’m sure he will do that.”
It appears the two YouTubers believe the player’s comments regarding his teammate imply Alli is currently not putting in enough effort to persuade Jose Mourinho he is worthy of a place in the side.
Simeon Daniel began by saying: “That kind of implies he’s not doing that at the moment.”
Before Ben added: “Especially when it comes from someone that is so close to Dele Alli as well. It’s quite surprising, those comments, because I thought with him starting in the Europa League last week [had] meant that he was trying hard and he was putting his shift in training – but now Dier’s come out with this, it’s making me think otherwise.”

Taking into consideration the wording Eric Dier used, we can understand why the YouTubers have taken his comments in that way. However, in our view, it doesn’t confirm that a lack of effort or commitment is the only reason Dele Alli has played just 243 minutes for the Lilywhites in all competitions this season.
Up until now, Alli has contributed 63 goals and 55 assists in 228 appearances for the club, proving that he is capable of producing for Tottenham Hotspur but for whatever reason, he’s facing a difficult time of it. Fingers crossed for those who follow the club, the player will return to form sooner rather than later.
