On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Chris Cowlin, Lee McQueen and Jamie Brown have been reflecting on the Lilywhites’ 3-1 win against Ludogorets in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

One topic of discussion on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘Another Kane Landmark‘, was Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso. The Argentinian impressed in the win in Bulgaria, picking up a 7.97 rating for his performance after scoring the Lilywhites’ third goal of the evening, which was his third Spurs goal of the 2020/21 season.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? 1. Who is Spurs' top scorer in all competitions so far this season?

The 24-year-old has struggled with injury problems so far this season and has made just one start in the Premier League as a result, so Spurs fans will no doubt be hoping that Thursday’s fixture will be a step closer to him being fully fit and ready to start more games in the top-flight.

Here’s what Brown had to say about the former PSG man during the podcast:

“I think he’s really frustrated at the moment because we know that Lo Celso is such a talented player and he’s going to be really important for us this year. He’s come in and he has been that [Christian] Eriksen replacement but the issue for him has been a lack of consistency. He’s not been able to perform consistently.

“Now, of course, that’s obviously down to injuries and then when he’s come back he’s taken time to get fit, so it’s just that frustration that he can’t seem to stay fit and then have a run in the side.

TIF Thoughts on Brown’s comments on Lo Celso…

Brown certainly seems frustrated that Lo Celso has, so far this season, been unable to enjoy a real run in Mourinho’s side, due to his injury concerns. Considering Spurs’ hectic schedule in the build-up to Christmas, which will see them face the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester City in the Premier League, you would hope that the Argentinian will be able to stay fit, as you imagine that Mourinho will have to make full use of the options in his squad during that tough run of games.

Can Lo Celso go on to become Eriksen's replacement?

Brown also suggests that the 24-year-old could be viewed as the replacement for Christian Eriksen, although with him having managed just five goals and three assists in 47 appearances for Spurs thus far, you could argue that he is a long way off achieving the sort of numbers Eriksen managed during his time with the Lilywhites.
