Gary Mabbutt has been speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol about Tottenham Hotspur man Dele Alli.

The former Spurs man went into great detail when discussing the 24-year-old, who has had a difficult season so far, having only made seven appearances in all competitions.

However, Mabbutt does not think that Alli will be sulking, and he will be trying to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s plans.

He said: “I am sure he will be doing everything he possibly can.

“The [staff] will be working with him to get him back to his best.

“If he’s back to his best, then, of course, he will be considered, because he has fantastic ability.

Mabbutt clearly believes that the England international will be working hard to try and find that form from the 2016/17 season and the 2017/18 season, where he directly contributed to a total of 25 and 19 league goals respectively.

Alli was linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona over this period, but there were rumours in the last transfer window that he was potentially going to be shipped out on loan, with PSG interested.

Do you think Alli can save his Tottenham career?

Yes, he can

Yes, he can

No, he is finished

No, he is finished

However, he has stayed in north London and struggled for game time, but Mabbutt still has confidence in his ability as a player.

“I’ve seen him over the years, what he can produce in training and in matches and the player that he can be,” he continued.

“At the moment he’s maybe out of form, it happens to players at certain times, lacking in confidence, maybe.

“But that could be built up; you have to work on that.

“That’s [why] as a player you will be fighting as hard as you can, proving to the manager every single day you go out training that you deserve that place in the squad.”

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? 1. Who is Spurs' top scorer in all competitions so far this season?

It seems as if Mabbutt thinks that Alli will be doing all he can to get back into Tottenham’s team, and considering he is still only 24, he could still have a long time left in his career to turn everything around.

Alli has huge amounts of talent, and it is clear that Mabbutt still believes that his Spurs career is far from over, and we think that he can as well – but it is now up to Alli to prove that he is good enough.
