Duncan Castles has been speaking on the latest edition of The Transfer Window podcast to discuss the latest transfer news.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? 1. Who is Spurs' top scorer in all competitions so far this season?

One topic of conversation was Tottenham Hotspur, and he revealed that Spurs are interested in signing Leicester City winger Demarai Gray.

Gray has less than a year left on his contract and has not played a game in the Premier League this season, and according to Castles, Tottenham are not only keen on the former Birmingham City man, but that his current club are of the belief the winger will be on his way to north London – though a deal is not ‘guaranteed’ just yet.

He said: “He is 24, [a] former England Under-21 international; he has a huge amount of pace, and he can finish.

“I think there will be no shortage of suitors for Demarai Gray.

“You see these days, Premier League clubs quite often have problems with matching their homegrown ratio and having enough homegrown players in their squad to meet Premier League and European rules.

“There you have a player available at no transfer fee cost who can help sort out that problem.

“I am told that at Leicester, they believe that he will be moving to Tottenham Hotspur.

“My understanding is there is an interest from Tottenham, but that is not a guaranteed deal.”

TIF Thoughts on Demarai Gray and Spurs’ interest in him…

Since signing from Birmingham in 2016, the 24-year-old has made 168 appearances for the Foxes, in which he has contributed 13 goals and provided 17 assists.

With Spurs currently having six players who can play on either wing as Gray can (as per Transfermarkt), we are not sure that they need to sign the Leicester man.

However, Castles’ hugely bold claim that Leicester actually already believe Gray and Tottenham will join forces in the future suggests that Spurs’ apparent interest may be more than just talk. And, the fact that Gray hasn’t been linked with a move to Spurs since the start of October makes this latest development all the more surprising.

That said, Tottenham have the likes of Jack Clarke in their squad, who is thought to have been impressing in training, is English and can play on either wing –  so do Spurs need to bring in Gray when they have a homegrown talent in Clarke waiting in the background?

We certainly don’t think so, and we feel that Spurs might be better off looking at other positions rather than trying to sign another winger.
