How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? 1. Who is Spurs' top scorer in all competitions so far this season?

On the topic of Bergwijn and his current situation at the club, Gold had this to say on the winger.

He said: “We know he wasn’t a Mourinho signing, he wasn’t someone that Mourinho wanted as his first choice. He very publicly, and perhaps probably shouldn’t have said, but he said that.

“I think [Erik] Lamela and Lucas [Moura], he trusts with the work rate aspect of things and to almost be like full-backs as well as wingers.

“Until Bergwijn has that in his locker, I don’t think you’ll see him as a regular.”

Spurs signed Bergwijn in the January transfer window earlier this year from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven for a fee of £27 million.

Since then, the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £25.2 million, has made 25 appearances for Spurs in which he has scored three goals and provided three assists (per Transfermarkt).

So far this season, Bergwijn has made four Premier League appearances for Tottenham in which he has only started one of them. His performances in those appearances have earned him a fairly weak season rating of 6.30/10 (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts on Alasdair Gold’s comments on Bergwijn…

It appears as though Bergwijn has some work to do, particularly on the defensive side of his game if he wants to become a regular player for Spurs.

According to WhoScored, Bergwijn’s weaknesses include his tackling abilities and his defensive contributions during games.

If Bergwijn was to work hard at his defensive contributions during matches, perhaps he could potentially become an important figure for Spurs this season.
