Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the north London club’s reported transfer interest in RB Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer.

This comes after Gold recently uploaded a video on his YouTube channel where he answered a number of Spurs-related questions put to him by his followers.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? 1. Who is Spurs' top scorer in all competitions so far this season?

On the topic of potential transfer targets for Jose Mourinho’s side, Gold had this to say on the reports linking them with a move for Sabitzer.

He said: “What I understand in that position is he’s a player Spurs absolutely love, a lot of people within Tottenham really love him as a player.

“However, I was also told that they haven’t actually made any contact with his representatives for a long time. Normally, the German press are excellent on that, but that one, I’m not entirely sure where that one’s come from.

“They’re not really leading the chase, because they haven’t really been showing any interest directly.”

Sabitzer signed to Leipzig back in 2014 from Rapid Vienna for a fee of £1.8 million. Overall, the 26-year-old, who is currently valued at £31.5 million, has made 194 appearances for the German club in which he has managed to score 45 goals and provide 36 assists.

Last season, Sabitzer was one of Leipzig’s standout performers in the Bundesliga, earning himself a season rating of 7.24/10 for his performances in the 32 league appearances he made (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts on Alasdair Gold’s comments on Sabitzer…

Given that Sabitzer has managed to score two goals in three Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig so far this season, it is clear to see why a club like Spurs would be interested in the Austrian.

In comparison, neither Gareth Bale, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela or Steven Bergwijn have managed to score that many goals in the Premier League so far this season (per WhoScored).

In our view, even though Spurs haven’t shown any recent interest in Sabitzer as Gold said in his video, they may want to reconsider if the 26-year-old continues scoring goals for Leipzig this season.
