A lot of Newcastle United fans have been slating Toon midfielder Sean Longstaff on Twitter for his performance in the North East club’s 2-0 loss to Southampton in the Premier League on Friday evening.
The 23-year-old played a full 90 minutes in the Premier League for the second game in a row in Friday’s clash with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.
In their post-match player ratings for this game, 90Min gave the £15.75m-rated man the lowest rating of any player from either side (1/10) and justified this low rating by claiming that the midfielder ‘barely touched the ball and spent most of the game charging around trying to keep up’ versus the Saints.
So, how did these Newcastle United fans react to Longstaff’s performance in this game?
It’s when you see Sean Longstaff on team sheet, utter disgrace him

Sean Longstaff hasn’t even done anything today. I used to like Almiron, but he doesn’t really produce much for all of the running around. Like Damien Duff. We are nothing at all without Shelvey and Hayden, which is terrible

It would seem as though plenty of Toon supporters share a similarly negative view on the midfielder’s performance, as Longstaff received plenty of criticism on Twitter for his display against Southampton.
Sad to see Sean Longstaff’s career plateauing so early. Been poor for the last 6 months.

Has Sean longstaff ever delivered a good set piece? #NUFC

Were you disappointed by Longstaff's performance in this game?
YES
NO
Def one of the worst Newcastle performances I have seen. Southampton look like they have at least 2 more players on the pitch. No urgency, no pace, totally flat & Sean Longstaff looks a shadow of his former self…awful game!!!

Sean Longstaff is terrible.

As per The Guardian, Longstaff played a significant role in Southampton’s second goal of the game, as it is said that he was ‘horrendously sloppy on the edge of the box,’ allowing the Saints to regain possession high up the pitch and double their lead late on.
Some Toon fans referenced Longstaff’s role in Stuart Armstrong’s goal while discussing his performance on Twitter.
@BSmitherrez85 @Dave_S26 longstaff can do something… Assist Southampton

Sums up Sean Longstaff’s performance. Lazy, just looks knackered and unfit @nufc
— David Bailey (@Bailz84) November 6, 2020
Sean Longstaff is absolutely brutal now. Bruce doesn’t even know his best 11. It’s embarrassing.

As poor from Longstaff for the second as it was from Almiron for the first. Awful display tonight. #NUFC

So, judging by these tweets, it certainly doesn’t seem as though many Newcastle fans were impressed with the 23-year-old’s performance versus Southampton.
