Mark Douglas of the Chronicle Live has been discussing the ongoing legal battle between Newcastle United and the Premier League during a recent edition of the Everything is Black and White podcast

The Magpies recently confirmed that they are involved in legal proceedings against the governing body after the Premier League themselves let the cat out of the bag last week.

Starting with an easy one, what number does Wilson wear for Newcastle?

Although publicly, the North East club have not revealed the details of the arbitration proceedings, the journalist has been discussing what he believes to be Newcastle United’s plan of attack, here is what he had to say:

“Everybody you speak to around the consortium, they believe two things, [firstly], that commercial partners, so beIN sports had an oversized influence on thinking and secondly, they believe that the top six teams or top four teams in the Premier League have also exerted influence on the league.

“So whether that’s true or not, the Premier League obviously denied that and that seems to be the belief of Mike Ashley and the team.

“So if that’s the case, if they’re going on that and they win on that point, I would think that probably then forces them to go back to do the owners’ and directors’ test again.”

Do you still think the Saudi-backed takeover could go through?

TIF Thoughts on Mark Douglas’ comments regarding Newcastle United’s case against the Premier League…

In our view, Mike Ashley and Newcastle United wouldn’t be taking this matter further if they didn’t genuinely feel they had a solid case. However, putting the off the field drama to one side, the Magpies have been in poor form of late, winning just one of their last five league fixtures.

With Steve Bruce’s side currently in 15th position, you could be forgiven for thinking the issues on the field should be the priority at St. James’ Park right now.
