Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

The Evening Chronicle writer discussed various topics, including the proposed takeover of the Toon by PCP Capital Partners, PIF and the Reuben brothers, which was withdrawn in July.

Douglas reported over the weekend that Saudi Arabia intended to introduce their own sports TV company, which led him to discuss what this could all mean for the proposed takeover.

He revealed that he thinks that given the current state of the Premier League’s finances, the league might be willing to compromise on the takeover.

He said: “They’re in a difficult position at the moment. They’re certainly not in the same position of presumed strength that they were in April.

“I wonder whether that’s one of the paths that the people behind this bid see that the Premier League’s resolve will weaken over time.

“It may be that they feel they get to a point where there is an optimum level of [willingness] from the consortium and some sort of backing down from the Premier League.

“I haven’t necessarily seen that yet, but that’s certainly what they hope.

“This move is another move in the right direction.”

Do you think the Premier League will back down?

TIF Thoughts on this potential plan and Douglas’ view on it…

The Premier League is losing a lot of money, and considering that PIF is worth a serious amount of wealth, you would think that it is possible that the Premier League might back down and allow the proposed takeover of the Toon through so that the league can have access to that money.

Certainly, if what Douglas says is true, then that is what people behind this deal are hoping.

However, considering the bid was initially withdrawn in July, and here we are in November, and nothing has changed, perhaps the consortium might be waiting for the Premier League to soften their stance.

It will be interesting to see what twist this takeover saga will take next.
