Luke Edwards has been speaking on a recent edition of The NUFC Late Show by Gallowgate Shots about all things Newcastle United.

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

One of the topics that came up during this episode was the proposed takeover of the Toon by Henry Mauriss, who believed he was in pole position to buy the Toon after the bid from PCP Capital Partners, PIF and the Reuben brothers was withdrawn.

Edwards provided an update on where he stands on Mauriss, claiming that the American is still interested in buying the club, and revealed that he has seen evidence of Mauriss’ interest, but that a takeover would have happened by now if the businessman was to follow through.

He said: “Believe it or not, I actually got a call from someone [on Friday] saying, “they’re still talking.”

“They might still be talking – but they’ve been talking for weeks, months.

“I’ve lost interest, to be honest.

“He’s still there, but if the money is there, it’s a really easy deal to do – so we keep being told by the [Mike] Ashley side.

“If the money’s there, it would have been done by now, so I am not worried about Henry Mauriss.

“I don’t want to reveal too much, but I’ve had contact with this mythical figure, Henry Mauriss; I’ve seen text messages that have been sent, I’ve seen emails that have been sent.

“I was told it was a credible bid by people I trust, so that’s the only reason I reported it, but for me, if it was going to be done, it would have been done by now.”

Do you think Mauriss' interest will go anywhere?

TIF Thoughts on Mauriss’ bid for Newcastle…

The news of Mauriss’ interest in buying Newcastle emerged in April, before it was reported he made a bid for the club in June.

However, when the Saudi-backed bid was withdrawn, nothing came of Mauriss’ interest, and it was claimed that Mike Ashley was confused at the American’s attempts to buy the club.

It is interesting that Mauriss is still talking about buying Newcastle, but Edwards might have a point that if he was that interested or if he had the money, then the deal should at least be significantly closer to completion.

We can’t say for certain what will happen with Mauriss, but it will be interesting to see if he does actually take his long-standing interest any further or if this will go nowhere.
