Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher recently appeared on an episode of the Pitch to Post Preview, to share his thoughts on the upcoming game between Manchester City and Liverpool.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode was Manchester City defender Ruben Dias. The Portuguese defender joined Pep Guardiola’s side in the recent summer window for a hefty £61.2 million fee from Liga NOS side Benfica and he has quickly established himself as a regular in the City first team, having made six appearances in all competitions so far this season (per WhoScored).

Man City fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Kevin De Bruyne quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one. From which team did Kevin De Bruyne join City?

Here’s what Carragher had to say about the 23-year-old during the podcast:

“I’ve liked the look of Dias since he’s come in. He looks a great size, when you think of the Premier League and what you need. [Aymeric] Laporte, we all know is a top player, it’s just obviously [about] getting together and playing longer and creating a partnership, there’s no doubt about that. In terms of individually, he looks a really good player, [a] good age to bring in as well, so it looks like in these early stages that they’ve recruited well in that position.”

TIF Thoughts on Carragher’s praise for Dias…

Dias has certainly impressed since joining the Citizens, having averaged a solid 6.83 rating across his four appearances in the Premier League, as well as an impressive 6.98 average from his two appearances in the Champions League (per WhoScored).

Should Dias start vs Liverpool?

With City having kept two clean sheets in their last two games that Dias has featured in, it certainly seems as if his signing is having the desired effect, and no doubt he, and the rest of City’s defence, will have to be at their best if they are to earn another shut-out in their next fixture against the reigning champions Liverpool.
