LFC Daytrippers contributor Grizz Khan has been discussing Georginio Wijnaldum’s recent performances during a recent edition of the podcast.

The Dutchman, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle United in 2016 for a reported £24.75m (as per Transfermarkt) has less than a year remaining on his current contract with the club and he is yet to sign an extension with the Merseysiders.

As a result of his contract situation, there was much speculation throughout the summer with him in particular, being heavily linked with a move to Barcelona to join up with ex-Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

However, a transfer to the Camp Nou never materialised and despite his future beyond the end of this season being uncertain, Khan has been full of praise for the 30-year-old following some of his recent displays. Here is what he had to say:

“Gini Wijnaldum had a superb game for Holland by all accounts, scored two goals – but has been a revelation this season. The Gini that we know, we expect, we want every week. The last two/three games, he’s been an absolute monster in midfield.”

In the recent Premier League fixtures versus Sheffield United and West Ham United, the midfielder’s performances were rated at a solid 6.98 and 6.94/10 respectively.

Add to that the recent win over Atalanta, in which his rating was an even more impressive 7.06/10, you can understand why the podcaster has been impressed by what he has seen from the player of late.
