Liverpool journalist Matt Addison has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the Merseyside club making a future transfer move for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.
This comes after Addison recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he discussed the biggest news topics concerning the Reds at this moment in time.
Last month, football journalist Fabrizio Romano shared a post on his official Twitter page saying that Haaland will have a release clause of €75 million (£67.7 million) by summer 2022.
On the topic of Haaland, who has been linked with a move to Anfield in the past, Addison had this to say on the possibility of Liverpool making a future transfer move for him.
He said: “I’m sure if the release clause is €75 million, I’m sure pretty much every team in the world who can afford that will be interested. Liverpool [are] no exception to that. Again, you look at what they will have to do in a couple of years’ time – you don’t want this to turn into a sort of Roberto Firmino conversation again, there’s been enough of those this week – but going forward, Liverpool, at some point, are going to have to find replacements for their front three.
“€75 million for pretty much a guaranteed goalscorer in Erling Haaland, I think would be one that certainly could make sense. One to watch for Liverpool, I think, but they certainly won’t be the only ones. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich at the very least will also be in the queue, and Manchester United as well.”
Haaland, who is currently valued at £72 million, signed to Dortmund back in the previous January transfer window from RB Salzburg for a fee of £18 million.
Overall, the 20-year-old has made a total of 28 appearances for the German club across all competitions, in which he has managed to rack up an impressive total of 26 goals (per Transfermarkt).

Looking at Haaland’s impressive goalscoring record for Dortmund, it’s no wonder that Addison thinks a lot of clubs would be interested in signing the striker when his reported release clause activates in 2022.
This means that Liverpool could face some competition if they do decide to make a move for Haaland at that time.
In our view, Haaland would be a fantastic signing for any club that manages to secure his signature in the future because of his attacking prowess in front of goal, as shown in his time at Dortmund so far.
