First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

After it was recently revealed that Bayern have withdrawn their new contract offer for Alaba and are now no longer prepared to negotiate with the Austria international, who could now leave the German club on a free transfer when his current deal runs out next summer, Addison had this to say on the possibility of Liverpool making a move for him.

He said: “It’s certainly one to watch out for, I do think it does make sense, it would be huge wages, but when you think that Liverpool do need a fourth option as a centre-back, he could be a rotation player in there.

“He can also play at left-back, he can play in midfield, which would be very, very handy if [Georginio] Wijnaldum was to leave. If you could have someone like Alaba to be put in the mixture there as well and sort of promote from within as well, you could give Curtis Jones a bigger role in Gini Wijnaldum’s absence, [and] have Alaba to rotate between the three positions that he can play in so I do think it would make sense for Liverpool to explore it. I’m sure it’s a player that they are interested in.”

Alaba, who is currently valued at £58.5 million, made his senior debut for Bayern back in 2010. Since then, the 28-year-old has made 395 appearances for the German club in which he has managed to score 31 goals and provide 49 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

During his time at Bayern, Alaba has won a plethora of trophies including two Champions League titles.

TIF Thoughts on Matt Addison’s comments on Alaba…

Given how much of an attacking threat Alaba has been for Bayern during his time at the club in terms of his goals and assists record and the top-level experience he has under his belt, it could be a fantastic bit of business if Liverpool managed to sign him on a free transfer in the summer if the opportunity arises.
