Speaking recently on The West Ham Way Podcast, ExWHUemployee claimed that West Ham United are looking at Philadelphia Union left-back, Kai Wagner.

Since moving to Philadelphia Union from Bundesliga 2 side Wurzburger Kickers back in February 2019, Wagner has gone on to feature 49 times for the Major League Soccer side, chipping in with one goal and providing eight assists along the way.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

So far this season, the £900k-rated 23-year-old has featured 17 times in the MLS, scoring one goal and providing two assists, helping his side to currently top the Eastern Conference table.

And, according to ExWHUemployee, who was speaking on a recent episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, David Moyes’ side could be interested in making a move for the German defender, as well as stating how much the player could be available for.

He said: “There’s been talk about us being interested in a left-back who plays for Philadelphia Union called Kai Wagner for £3.5 million. He’s been playing really well in MLS. We have looked at him from afar, we’ve looked at a couple of players in the MLS; players like him that are standing out [who are] in [West Ham’s] price range.”

TIF Thoughts on ExWHUemployee’s comments regarding Kai Wagner…

From ExWHUemployee’s comments, it would appear that West Ham have indeed been keeping tabs on Wagner, and, should the club decide to make a move for the left-back, £3.5 million would be around the figure they would have to part with to land the 23-year-old.

However, with Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell in the West Ham squad who can both operate from left-back, in addition to the fact that both players have highly impressed for Moyes’ side this season, in our opinion, the club are not in desperate need of further depth in this position, and, as such, we would not expect the Hammers to make a move for Wagner in January.
